Empowering Early Childhood Educators: How the ECECD Scholarship Transforms Lives and Careers

Rebecca Sandoval is a shining example of perseverance and dedication in early childhood education. A proud member of San Felipe Pueblo, Rebecca used the New Mexico Early Childhood Education & Care Department (ECECD) Scholarship to pursue her educational goals and build a meaningful career.

Rebecca graduated with her Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. The scholarship allowed her to balance her studies with her responsibilities, opening doors for her professional growth and personal fulfillment.

First Impressions:

Rebecca was overwhelmed with gratitude when she received the ECECD Scholarship. The cost of higher education had made it challenging for her to focus entirely on her studies. With the scholarship covering tuition and book expenses, she could devote more energy to her academic pursuits, free from financial concerns.

Educational Impact:

Rebecca works at the Pueblo of San Felipe Child Care Program, equipped with the tools and innovative teaching methods gained through her coursework. She oversees 30 home childcare providers, ensuring children in her community grow in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. Her work highlights the power of investing in community-based educators.

Memorable Moment:

One of Rebecca’s proudest moments was holding her diploma for the first time. It symbolized years of hard work and carried a profound meaning—a promise fulfilled to her late father. “As I held my diploma, I felt so connected to him. This degree is our shared dream, and I know he’s proud of me,” said Rebecca.

Future Aspirations:

Rebecca is determined to deepen her impact within her community at San Felipe Pueblo by advancing in her career and stepping into a leadership role. Inspired by her current supervisor and motivated by a commitment to serve her community, she sees leadership as a pathway to make a difference.

Rebecca’s journey doesn’t stop here. She plans to begin her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education soon and has set her sights on graduate school one day. Inspired by her supervisor’s leadership and motivated by her commitment to serving her community, Rebecca aspires to step into a leadership role. “I want to continue growing as an educator and as a leader. My community deserves the best, and I’m committed to making a lasting difference,” she says.
